About us

How

We have worked with English text for 30 years, and in the fall of 2022, we decided to turn our idea into a reality. That led to the creation of rýna.

Ragnhildur Thorlacius was born in Iceland but lived in Germany as a wee child. She moved back to Iceland with her family where she spent her childhood years in Garðabær. She has traveled and lived in many places around the world, including Hawaii and China, but after receiving her Associate degree, she finally settled in Iceland in 2002 and now resides in Reykjavík.

She has a BA degree in English and is finishing her studies in Translation Studies at the University of Iceland. In 2018, she received her MBA degree from the University of Iceland.

Ragnhildur has worked in tourism for many years. Among other tasks, she has worked with all kinds of texts in the English language, including translating texts from Icelandic to English and vice versa, writing tour descriptions and other informational content for the web. She has experience in web management and knows various web management systems.

As a contractor, she has translated English text, both for various magazines and television.

She‘s an avid knitter and reader, loves the outdoors, is an absolute mountain goat, and loves nothing more than taking a swim in the Atlantic Ocean on the Icelandic shores, no matter the temperature.

Her favorite place is Lake Langisjór at Vatnajökull Glacier. It‘s desolate and isolated and her perfect place to relax, unwind, and find her inner peace.

Katrín Hauksdóttir was born in Iceland, lived in Africa as a wee child, went back to Iceland, lived in Garðabær during her childhood years, then moved to the USA as a teen. She has lived and worked in many places but finally settled back in Iceland in 2001 and now resides in Kópavogur.

At the age of 16, Katrín moved to Boston USA with her parents and siblings. She was a fast learner of the English language and enjoyed her high school years where English was one of her favorite subjects. She graduated from Emerson College in 1997 and received a BA degree in Marketing & Communication. She later received an MA degree in International Relations from the University of Iceland.

Katrín has experience in working with English text, which includes translating, proofreading, writing, rephrasing, and correcting grammar. She pays great attention to detail, and during her years in tourism, she often wrote tour descriptions for her department, proofread, edited, and improved grammatical errors and texts.

Katrín, aka Kata, loves to read, cook and bake. She‘s had an interest in photography for many years but also enjoys amateur carpentry and fixing old to new. She absolutely loves being in the water, but unlike Ragnhildur who loves the cold water, Kata is happy with the warm pools and lagoons.

Her favorite place is Ásbyrgi Canyon. There‘s something magical about the area and it's her perfect place to sit back, relax, and listen to the sounds of the birds and echos.
